Floyd Dillon Wickliffe Jr.

July 3rd 1949 – May 30th 2017

Floyd Dillon Wickliffe Jr. passed away May 30, 2017 with his family and friends by his side in San Antonio, Texas.

Floyd was born in San Antonio, Texas to Floyd and Lois Wickliffe. His father was a contractor from Indiana and his mother, Lois Everett, came from a ranching family in Valentine, Texas.  They met and married in San Antonio. Their son Floyd was born on July 3, 1949.

Floyd spent many summers in west Texas at his grandparent’s ranch in Valentine and attended the Bloys Campmeeting outside of Fort Davis, TX during the summer. He graduated from Edison High School in San Antonio, was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Alaska. Upon return from his military service, Floyd met and married Barbara Ward and had two daughters, Shannon in 1972 and Kelsey in 1977.

A skilled craftsman and musician, Floyd always found passion in refinishing and restoring antique furniture and playing music in bands around San Antonio. A devoted father, he enjoyed teaching handsprings, building high jumps and coaching volleyball for his daughters.

Floyd gave his time in recent years to caretaking for his partner Deborah Callender throughout an extended illness and was a stepfather to her daughters, Lindsay and Chelci. He cared for Deborah until her passing in 2012. Subsequently, he lived with and cared for his father Floyd Wickliffe, Sr. until he passed away in 2013.

His interests included family, music, antiques, and building furniture. Never a stranger, Floyd enjoyed many friends and was always lending an ear to someone in need or telling a story to a willing listener. He loved animals and was especially close to his constant companions, Daisy and Pogo, who daily laid on his bed day in and day out throughout his illness.

Mr. Wickliffe is survived by his sister, Nancy Wickliffe Floyd; daughters and their spouses, Rich and Shannon Rusing and Paul and Kelsey Streckfus; his grandchildren Berit, Gunnar, Hanson and Aksel Rusing; stepdaughters Chelci Callender-Schaefer and Lindsay Callender and their children Addisyn and Taylor Schaefer and Braden and Braelyn Reyes; as well as, nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois Wickliffe and Sister, Wanda Marshall, and partner, Deborah Callender.

Floyd’s family is forever grateful for the excellent cancer treatment and end of life care he received through his friends at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio and Generous Hospice.
